Ravenala Madagascariensis - Seeds and Germination
Ravenala Madagascariensis have blue skin and a hard-waterproof cover.
We have to remove bouth of them before sowing the seeds.
First of all we have to clean the seeds to remove the blue skin.
After that we have to soften the hard cover.
To soften this cover soak the seeds for 4 hours in hot water, 75ºC.
After that soak the seeds in warm water for 48 hours.
Other method is puting the seed in peroxide water for two days. After that put the seeds in warm water for two more days,
The ideal substrate is a mixture of sand and black peat in equal parts.
Add some Perlite to improve the sewer sistem.
Mix and water it well. Drain the mixture, pressing to expel all the water.
The soil has to be wet but no waterlogged.
Fill with the soil the container chosen to sow the seeds.
Put the seeds on the substrate, leaving two cm between them.
Cover with a layer of soil equal to the thickness of the seed.
The seeds may take 3-4 weeks to germinate under perfect conditions.
For all that time we have to keep constant moisture and temperature.
The temperature must be 25-30ºC. Put them under full sunlight.
